LITHONIA, Ga. — A SWAT situation involving a man holding a woman at knifepoint at the Willowick Townhomes in DeKalb County has ended.
According to DeKalb County Police, the situation began when the female texted her family saying her estranged boyfriend wouldn’t let her leave. The family went to the townhome and called police.
“The first responding officers tried to get him to come out, but he wouldn’t,” said Major Steven Fore.
SWAT was able to communicate with the female hostage without the man knowing, and they rescued her from a second story window with a ladder. Shortly after, the man surrendered peacefully.
“Every hostage situation is different, but our primary concern is for the safety of those being held captive,” said Fore.
The situation shut down the area around Farington Road for most of Wednesday morning. As a result, Farington Elementary School was placed on lockdown temporarily.
Police have identified the suspect as 42-year-old Peter Thompson. He’s charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault.
