Suspects In Buckhead Home Invasion, Cop Shooting Have Criminal History

Atlanta police identified the two men accused a home invasion inside the Allure at Brookwood apartment complex in Buckhead Saturday.

Police said a woman called 911 about 3:30 p.m. to report someone was trying to break into her apartment at the Allure at the Brookwood apartment complex.

By the time an officer arrived at the apartment building, the woman’s door was kicked in.

According to police, an officer found Antonio Bell and Michael Thomas inside the building.

Police say Thomas fired gunshots at the officer using a 9MM handgun, hitting him in the stomach.

The officer was wearing a bulletproof vest and is doing well.

Police say the officer returned fire inside the building, injuring Thomas.

A Channel 2 Action News employee spotted one of the suspects moving away from the apartment.

“He wasn’t running, but kind of walking fast toward the train tracks and noticed he had a pretty decent sized gun in his left hand,” she said.

She called 911 and police say her phone call helped them catch the armed suspect on Peachtree Park Drive.

Police arrested both suspects and recovered a gun.

The police officer who was saved by his vest has been with the Atlanta Police Department for three years, is 29-years-old and has a baby on the way.

The suspect shot by the officer is stable.

Channel 2 Action News discovered Bell has been arrested on other time in Fulton County for moving violations while driving. Thomas has been arrested seven other times, facing drug charges and other violent offenses.

The GBI is investigating this officer-involved shooting.
