Former Braves closer John Rocker is “absolutely” endorsing Donald Trump for president.
“I think he has really woken America up,” Rocker told website The Daily Caller.
Rocker tells the Daily Caller:
“I’m probably as disheartened as everyone else is, as Trump supporters seem to be, with the status quo and the glad-handing politicians and the soundbite politicians always looking for the right comment to make and walking that fine line trying to make every single faction out there, who could be a possible voter, don’t make anybody mad and wear kid gloves.”
Earlier Tuesday, the Republican candidate for president earned the endorsement of the son of TV evangelist Jerry Fallwell, who is the president of Liberty University.
Rocker who was once accussed in a Sports Illustrated article of hating all New Yorkers says GOP rival Ted Cruz’s characterization of Trump’s “New York values” is misguided:
“Yes it’s a bit of a racket living in New York because everything is so expensive but people who live there, they love it and they’re willing to work damn hard and get callouses on their hands and elbow grease on their elbows just to live there, and I think that’s very commendable in a lot of areas.”
Rocker is not the first sports figure to voice support for Trump. New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady previously said he an Trump have been friends for a long time and “I support all my friends.”
Rocker was a member of the Braves’ pitching staff from 1998 until he was traded in 2001. Since leaving baseball, Rocker has written a conservative blog on the site WND.com.
